Introducing Flexible Mileage from Tint
Turo hosts with Tint will now benefit from increased flexibility when it comes to vehicle mileage. This newly enhanced program allows Turo hosts increased flexibility with off-trip miles driven. Your total allocation of miles per month can be distributed across your portfolio.
We made this change to our program because we listen when you talk. We heard from several hosts that a majority of their vehicles aren't used very often while off-trip (if at all). However, you may have one vehicle used for several airport trips that accrues far more miles than the rest of your vehicles. Meaning, one car might have 500 miles off-trip, while several others have 10 or 15 miles in any given month.
Let’s Get Into the Details
For each GPS-connected vehicle you have in your portfolio, you’ll be provided with 300 miles toward your total mileage allowance per month. You can use those miles however you like across your portfolio. If you exceed that amount in a given month, you will be charged a mileage surcharge.
Mileage Surcharge Rates:
State/Region | Liability Surcharge Per Mile Over Miles Limit | Comprehensive and Collision Surcharge Per Mile Over Miles Limit |
DC, MA, MD, MI | $0.27 | $0.20 |
All other states | $0.23 | $0.14 |
Note: Liability miles over the portfolio limit will not apply to Turo deliveries for trips.
What Happens If I Need to Add/Remove A Vehicle?
Mileage counts are calculated based on the 1st of each month. If you add or remove a vehicle your mileage will begin the following month.
Is My GPS Provider Grace Period Impacted By This?
No, your grace period is still valid. However, it should be noted that grace periods are meant to allow you to secure an approved GPS provider and to provide consent for Tint to receive your data. If you fraudulently use your grace period you may be subject to cancellation.
What Happens If I Know I Need to Use a Vehicle for a Long Trip Ahead of Time?
We know that you may need to drive a large number of miles in a given month for a variety of reasons. For example, you may have several long-distance airport runs in any given month. However, your mileage limits still apply. We recommend that you plan ahead and set aside the additional dollars needed to cover your surcharge for that month. We do not currently offer any pre-pay options or alternatives for extenuating circumstances. As a reminder, your insurance plan only covers business miles.
Need An Example? Here’s Three!
Host Number 1:
Host number one, let’s call her Tricia, has 5 cars with active GPS devices covered with off-trip insurance from Tint. With our new flexible miles option that means she has a total of 1,500 miles per month.
Car 1: She doesn’t use this car very much and has only driven 50 miles off-trip to and from drop off and pick up locations.
Car 2: Is used by her team for business travel and uses 500 miles this month.
Car 3: This car was in and out of the shop getting repairs and was driven a total of 350 off-trip miles.
Car 4: Is used often but only has 45 off-trip miles this month.
Car 5: Is not used often and only has 27 off-trip miles this month.
5 Cars x 300 miles per month = 1,500 total miles this month
Actual mileage used = 972 miles
Tricia came in under her mileage limit and will not be charged a surcharge.
Host Number 2:
Host number two, let’s call him Tony, has 3 cars with active GPS devices covered with off-trip Insurance from Tint. With our flexible miles that means he has a total of 900 miles per month.
Car 1: He uses this car for all his business trips and puts a decent amount of miles on it. This month was particularly busy. He drove his car 875 miles this month.
Car 2: He doesn’t use this car often and only had 10 off-trip miles logged this month.
Car 3: He doesn’t use this car often either and logged 25 off-trip miles this month.
3 Cars x 300 miles per month = 900 total miles this month
Actual mileage used = 910 miles
Tony came in over his mileage limit and will be charged for the 10 miles driven in excess of his limit.
Host Number 3:
Host number three, let’s call them Taylor, started the month with 5 cars and added 5 cars to their off-trip Insurance coverage on the 15th of the month. They start the month out with 1,500 flexible miles.
Car 1: Taylor’s team had to use this car for business a good amount this month and logged 700 miles.
Car 2: This car was barely used this month and accrued 72 off-trip miles.
Car 3: This car had a few drop-offs that were far away and logged 220 off-trip miles.
Car 4: This car was used sporadically and logged 115 miles.
Car 5: This car was barely used and logged only 35 miles.
Car 6: Taylor added this vehicle halfway through the month and it used 400 miles.
Car 7: This car was added halfway through the month and it used 400 miles.
Car 8: This car was added halfway through the month and it used 210 miles.
Car 9: This car was added halfway through the month and it used 25 miles.
Car 10: This car was added halfway through the month and it used 600 miles.
5 Cars x 300 miles per month = 1,500 total miles at the start of the month
These 5 cars drove a total of 1,142 off-trip miles and were below the mileage limit, meaning there is no charge.
5 Cars x 300 miles per month added halfway through the month. Even though these miles were tracked, they will not count towards the total miles for the month. Any miles accumulated the following month will count towards total miles. For the following month, their total flexible miles will be 10 cars x 300 miles = 3,000.
